The 2011 Iron Fork Champion is…..Laura Wilson of the Turnip Truck!! CONGRATS!
Green almonds was the secret ingredient this year, which to me sounds like a pretty tricky item to highlight in a dish. But all of the chefs created amazing dishes, and Laura took home the Gold Fork with her green almond pesto and homemade pasta (her description was much fancier than my recall, of course). It was a great event and I stuffed myself delicious food…I’ll be going back next year for more! And in the meantime, I have several new restaurants to add to my list of places to try, like Nero’s, Mere Bulles, and Mambu. If you’ve tried these places, leave a comment with your favorite dish!
I missed out last year, but this year I was sure to get my ticket for the Nashville Scene’s Iron Fork Competition. Five of Nashville’s best local chefs will face off in an Iron Chef-style competition at the Country Music Hall of Fame this Wednesday, April 20th from 6-10pm. The chef who reigns supreme will go home with the “Gold Fork” and, of course, the title of 2011 Iron Fork champion.
The chefs battling out include:
Matt Bolus – Watermark
Ashley Quick – Flyte
John Stephenson – Fido
Laura Wilson – Turnip Truck
Charles Phillips – 1808 Grille
In addition to the competition, there will be samplings from over 30 local restaurants. So if you haven’t bought a ticket yet, do it soon! All proceeds benefit the Martha O’Bryan Center. Allez Cuisine!
