Chocolate Banana Chiller

Post updated 7/10/20.

I have a deliciously cool and chocolaty treat for you today. This Creamy Banana Chocolate Chiller is the perfect post-workout smoothie, with a protein boost from the peanut butter and milk, and quality carbohydrates from and oats and bananas.

Oats in a smoothie may seem strange, but once blended it provides a thicker texture, leaving you feeling fuller longer, which is why it’s one of my favorite smoothie add-ins. Another ingredient I love adding to smoothies is the glorious avocado. You would never know it’s in this chocolaty shake, but the avocado makes a creamier, more filling beverage and also provides a dose of healthy fats. Hip-hip-hooray for monounsaturated fats!

Chocolate Banana Chiller

There’s no doubt the banana and chocolate are the stars of this smoothie. Always a winning combo! The banana provides a dose of potassium which is important for muscle contractions and blood flow, and this popular fruit also contains vitamin B6, and important nutrient for immune system function and the processing of protein, carbohydrates, and fat that we consume throughout the day. Vitamin B6 even plays a role in how well we sleep at night and our mood because it’s involved in the production of serotonin. Serotonin is often thought of as the “happy neurotransmitter” and a deficiency may negatively affect your mood, contributing to feelings of anxiety and depression.

Nutrition Fact: Bananas contain vitamin B6 which plays a role in sleeping well at night & producing serotonin for a positive mood.

Plenty of good stuff going on in this Creamy Banana Chocolate Chiller! This is definitely a smoothie that would win the kids over and it’s a good “introductory” smoothie for anyone not on board with them yet.
