Last Wednesday I was fortunate enough to attend an event at Whole Foods in support of their Health Starts Here™ program. Based on four principles, the Health Starts Here ™ program promotes four key points:
1. Plant-strong diet
2. Whole, minimally processed foods
3. Nutrient-dense foods
4. Healthy fats from natural sources such as avocados, nuts & seeds
Chef Chad Sarno prepared so many great items for the evening and demonstrated how to apply the Health Starts Here™ principles at home, including how to make almond milk, which is actually super-duper easy!! And the cucumbers with cashew herb cheese & balsamic figs (pictured above). Best. Thing. Ever. I could have eaten a whole tray of them by myself, but I refrained.
What the event emphasized to me is that anyone can apply the four principles to their life. You don’t have to be a vegan or even a vegetarian to incorporate these four points into your eating habits. There is a 28-Day Challenge for those ready to take the leap. But if you aren’t ready to omit butter from your life or make almond milk at home, then I suggest starting with a small challenge. You can start by adding more fresh vegetables or fruits to your daily diet, or swap out high-fat meats and dairy for lean meats and low-fat dairy products or dairy alternatives. Eating healthier is easier than you think if you start with small changes!!
