On a mission to find the healthiest salads in Nashville? Look no further! While there are plenty of great, nutritious salads in town, I asked my friends at NourishWise to help me find a few select salads that meet the American Heart Association’s criteria for a heart-healthy recipe.

The American Heart Association has set their heart-check certification criteria for entrée salads as the following:

Each of the restaurants below serve a salad that meets the criteria. That’s pretty impressive! Let’s check them out….

Tin Angel

Tin Angel has been in Nashville since 1993 and when I moved here in 2009, it was one of the first restaurants I tried. Located on West End Avenue, Tin Angel is a neighborhood favorite and the menu features seasonal ingredients and one of the healthiest salads in Nashville! The Spinach Salad includes grape tomatoes, hard-cooked egg, pickled red onions, and croutons.

Lynne Lorraine’s

Lynne Lorraine’s is more than just a juice & smoothie shop—they also offer several food items including breakfast, sandwiches, and salads. Stop in their East Nashville store for a Caesar Salad and smoothie or juice for a quick, healthy meal!

Epice

This Lebanese restaurant in 12 South has plenty of great, healthy options on the menu but their Peasant Salad meets the heart-check certification criteria. Made with seasonal vegetables and a lemonette dressing, it can be ordered as an entrée salad but it’s also served as a side with all of the sandwiches on the menu.

The Garden Food Truck

People might assume that finding healthy options in a food truck would be near impossible, but that’s not the case with the Garden Food Truck! This salad is actually 50 calories over the AHA criteria but considering it meets all of the other expectations, it earned a spot on this list.

Have you tried any of these salads around town? Be sure to pin this guide for later!

Remember these easy tips the next time you’re looking for a healthier salad on a menu:

  • Choose grilled or baked meats instead of deep-fried proteins
  • Ask for salad dressing to be served on the side and go for a vinaigrette rather than a creamy dressing
  • Does that salad come with cheese? You can also ask for it to be served on the side.
  • Avoid the deep-fried crunchy toppings like tortilla strips or wonton strips. If you need some crunch, ask for walnuts, almonds, or pecans!

Note: The items listed above have not been approved by the American Heart Association Heart-Check Certification program. They only meet the criteria publicly posted on www.heart.org.
