What is the Mediterranean Diet?
The Mediterranean Diet is a eating pattern/routine that includes many foods found in the regions near the Mediterranean Sea. Commonly enjoyed foods include fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables, whole grains, seafood and lean meats, yogurt, aged cheese, olive oil, fresh herbs, and beans and lentils.
When it comes to diets, I’m generally not a fan but this is one I can get behind! Because truly, it’s not a diet at all but rather a style of eating. The foods found and enjoyed in the Mediterranean region are often full of healthful fats, antioxidants, fiber, and many other essential vitamins and minerals.
There are plenty of health benefits associated with eating a Mediterranean Diet including:
- Reduced risk of cardiovascular disease
- Lower risk of diabetes
- Decreased inflammation/arthritic pain
- Reduced risk of cancer
- Brain health benefits
- Improved immune function
The cookbook dives into the health benefits of this eating pattern and includes a list of ingredients to keep on hand to make eating the Mediterranean way as easy as possible.

Last week, we made the Lemon-Oregano Chicken with Zucchini Noodles and the recipe was not only easy to follow but the flavor was excellent. The chicken is marinated in a Mediterranean-inspired mixture of lemon juice, olive oil, and oregano. We’re carb lovers around here, so we decided to cook a small amount of spaghetti to serve along with the zucchini noodles.
The good news is that I get to share one of the complete recipes from the book! I think you’re going to love these Tahini Brownies 🙂
