Happy Friday, Nutrition Adventurers!
I’m excited to start a new weekly recap post where I’ll share some of my favorite things & happenings from the week. Think of it as a weekly virtual coffee/tea meet-up with yours truly 🙂 And because this is like a weekly hang sesh, I’d really love to hear from you too, so please share your thoughts and comments below!
Speaking of tea, have you tried Tiesta Tea? I tried it for the first time this week (thanks to the good folks at Tiesta Tea for sending some samples!) and it’s so delicious! They are loose leaf teas, which I think makes for a fresher, more flavorful tea and it also helps reduce waste. Buh-bye tea bags, hello tea infusers! You’ll hear more about this tea from me again in the future and there just miiight be a giveaway happening soon so make sure you’re following me on Instagram.
I had another HelloFresh delivery this week and the first meal out of the box was a Lean Green Steak Machine with a mint chive dressing and veggie succotash. I’ve got to say that we had succotash for dinner occasionally when I was a kid but it wasn’t anything like this succotash! Zucchini, red onions, peas, and asparagus sauteed together makes for a very tasty succotash and I’ll be repeating this combination. I cooked the sirloin steak just a tad over how I normally like it but it was still delicious and surprisingly the mint chive dressing complemented the dish well.

Last Saturday, my friends and I went to an awesome event hosted by The Local Perspective that featured several of Nashville’s local creatives & businesses. From clothing to home goods, to artfully designed skateboards and craft cocktail mixers, this event made me love Nashville even more. We have such an incredibly supportive and creative community in this city and it makes me super happy to see people living out their passions! Like the good people behind With Co. Cocktails, who make cocktail mixers with fresh, local ingredients. Cheers to that!
On Wednesday, I was invited to check out the newest Orangetheory Fitness studio that is set to open very soon. Myself, along with other health & fitness bloggers in the city, were the first non-OTF people to take a class in their gym! So cool. This was my first OTF experience so I was a little nervous about what I was walking into.
The instructor did a great job making us feel comfortable and provided instructions on using the rowing machine (#firsttimer). The class was split into two groups and one group started on the treadmill for 30 minutes while the other group focused on weights/rowing. Every class is different though, so don’t expect to get the same workout twice at OTF!
The unique thing about Orangetheory fitness is that everyone wears a heart rate monitor and the goal is to keep your heart rate within a certain range (80% and above) for a majority of the class to earn “splat points”. The idea is that the high-intensity workout will keep the heart rate in a target zone, which will help spike metabolism and increase energy. There are monitors in the room so you can see what your heart rate is throughout the class and whether or not you’re reaching the target range. After the class, they email a summary of your performance. The goal is to earn at least 12 splat points during the 1-hour class.
My workouts usually don’t consist of so much cardio so it was good to get that variety and I enjoyed the challenge, especially on the treadmill!
Nut Butter Nation, a Nashville-based biz, was at the OTF event to provide us with some tasty samples post-workout—yes, please! I love all of their flavors but the Brown Sugar Cinnamon will always be my fave. Remember when I made these Brown Sugar-Cinnamon PB Cookies with their peanut butter?
Yesterday, I went to Lulu’s in Germantown, which just opened this week and it’s such a lovely space that I know I’ll be back soon. When I saw the Seasonal Ricotta Toast on the menu, I had to have it. Love the addition of edible flowers and pistachios on top! Lulu’s has a little bit of everything on the menu and the space is very open and bright. It’s also just a block away from the Nashville Sounds stadium so great option for a bite to eat before the game.
That’s all for this week but I’d love to hear from you so please feel free to leave me a comment below.
Let me know:
