Paloma Popsicles

These Paloma Popsicles are made with grapefruit juice, lime juice and tequila & they’ll soon become your new favorite summer treat!

A couple summer’s ago, a friend introduced me to the tastiest summer beverage, the Paloma. A combination of grapefruit, lime, sugar, and tequila, a Paloma is similar to a grapefruit margarita. While I love sipping on this cocktail in the summer, I thought Paloma Popsicles would be a super cool (pun intended) way to enjoy it!

Before we get to the recipe for these popsicles, I’ll share a secret with you about creating a Paloma cocktail at home. My friends and I have a shortcut recipe that we love, which uses Grapefruit Jarritos® soda in place of fresh grapefruit juice. Sometimes, you just need a cocktail fast without all the mess, ya know? There’s no denying that fresh grapefruit juice really makes a difference so if you have the time, go that route. But if not, this shortcut option is just as refreshing! Okay, now it’s time to turn my favorite summer beverage into a popsicle!

The number of popsicles you end up with will depend on the size of the popsicle molds you use, but this recipe makes 2 1/2 cups of popsicle liquid total. I was able to make 6 popsicles with the molds I have, but I’m already wishing I had made a double batch.

I highly encourage making these and then inviting some friends over to enjoy them with you!

Paloma Popsicles

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons agave nectar
  • 1 3/4 cup fresh grapefruit juice about 2 medium grapefruits
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice about 3 limes
  • 1/4 cup silver tequila
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  • 1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the water and agave nectar to make a simple syrup. Heat for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • 2. In a liquid measuring cup, juice the grapefruits until you have about 1 3/4 cup of liquid. Then juice the limes into the measuring cup, bringing the total liquid to 2 cups. Add in the agave simple syrup, tequila, and salt and stir.
  • 3. Pour the liquid into popsicle molds and freeze for at least 8 hours. To remove popsicles, run the molds under lukewarm water for a few seconds to help loosen them. Enjoy!
