No food dehydrator? No problem. Today I’m showing you how to create dehydrated apples using the appliance many of us already have in the kitchen—the oven! Oven-Dried Apples are a great snack to have around when you need something a little sweet, and they’re a perfect option to pack when headed out for a hike.

To make these, I used Fuji apples but you could use your favorite variety of apple. Even green apples if your heart so desires. And now is the time to make these Oven-Dried Apples while apples are in season!

How to Dehydrate Apples in the Oven

When dehydrating fruits like apples or pineapple in the oven, it’s important to make thin slices so they don’t take any longer than necessary to dry out. You can slice the apples by hand or use a mandoline to get more uniform slices. If you’re using a mandoline, I highly recommend a cutting glove while using!

Once the apples are sliced, lay them flat on a cooling rack placed onto a baking sheet, being sure not to overlap them. Mix together a little cinnamon and cardamom in a small bowl and then sprinkle away over the apple slices! I only sprinkle the spices on one side but you could flip them and do the other side as well.

Place the baking sheets into the oven and bake for about 2.5 hours.

Once the apple slices have cooled off from baking, they’re ready to eat! Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
