Cinnamon Apple-Pear Sauce

When life hands you bad apples, make applesauce.

Okay, not like rotten apples, but slightly bruised, less than ideal apples. That’s what happened with my grocery delivery order last week. I was sad at first because I was looking forward to having crisp apples as a snack option for the coming week, but I got over it real fast once the thought of making applesauce popped into my head.

Now I’m wondering why I don’t make applesauce more often. It’s so simple to make and it’s great to have in the refrigerator when the craving for something sweet hits! And does anyone else crave warm applesauce with cinnamon when not feeling well? It’s just so comforting and when nothing else tastes good, somehow applesauce does.

I used Braeburn apples in this recipe but McIntosh, Fuji, or Jonamac apples also work well for applesauce. And don’t feel like you have to remove every last bit of the peel before cooking. You can use a vegetable peeler to remove some of the skin and leave the rest on for extra fiber!
