By posting this recipe, I am entering my recipe into the Taste the Mighty Concord Welch’s Recipe Contest, a sponsored recipe contest in which I am eligible to win prizes. I was not compensated for my time.
American Heart Month isn’t over yet, and I have one more recipe that’s all about keeping your heart in tip-top shape. If you missed my Heart-Smart Recipe post earlier in the month, be sure to check that out too!
When my dietitian friend and fellow nutrition blogger, Jessica at Nutritioulicious, shared the Taste the Might Concord recipe contest on her blog, I was excited to join in on the fun. I love 100% grape juice because not only does it taste amazing, it also helps support a healthy heart by keeping blood vessels in great shape and by promoting healthy circulation. Nearly 20 years of research shows that 100% grape juice made with Concord grapes helps support a healthy heart.
This Almond Butter Jelly Smoothie came to life by happenstance, like most smoothies in my life. I made it one day after a workout, just adding whatever I had on hand, and was so surprised at how much it tasted like an almond butter & jelly sandwich!
This recipe featured in my book, Eat To Sleep, for it's sleep-promoting ingredients!
It was so good, I knew I had to share it with you all 🙂
I used almond butter in this recipe, which contains less saturated fat than peanut butter, and also threw in chia seeds for some heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. This recipe packs a whopping 11 grams of fiber, and while it has 14 grams of total fat, they’re mostly monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (aka the good kind!).
Ingredients
- 4 fl. oz. 100% Concord grape juice such as Welch's
- 2 fl. oz. vanilla kefir I used siggi's vanilla Swedish-style filmjolk
- 1/2 cup frozen dark sweet cherries
- 1/4 cup frozen wild blueberries
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
Instructions
- 1. Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Pour into a glass and top with frozen cherries and wild blueberries if desired.

41 g of sugar would make my head spin, even if you subtract the 11g for the fiber. any suggestions on reducing the sugar?
Hi Julie–you could cut some sugar by replacing the vanilla filmjolk with a plain yogurt and also swap out the 100% grape juice for a ‘light’ grape juice. If you don’t enjoy the taste of reduced-sugar beverages, try reducing the 100% grape juice from 4 fluid ounces to 2 fluid ounces (but you might have to add a touch of water to help things blend together).
This smoothie is right up my alley. Delish!
Thank you Nicole! Let me know if you give it a try 🙂
