Kid-Friendly: Pistachios, Honey Pears, & Cottage Cheese
In-shell Pistachios + Pear slices drizzled with Honey + Low-fat Cottage Cheese
This pistachio pairing isn’t just a healthy snack option for kids. It’s also a way to keep them occupied by cracking open pistachio shells! You can even turn it into a counting lesson by having young ones keep track of their pistachio shells. Who knew a snack could have so many purposes?!
The most important thing to remember about snacks is having a balance of protein and carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are digested quickly in the body, so it’s important to pair them with protein to help keep you feeling fuller longer. Most children currently are not meeting daily protein needs, so adding nuts and or other proteins (seeds, tofu, beans, low-fat dairy, eggs) is a healthy way to fulfill those needs. This snack provides 18 grams of protein and comes in at less than 200 calories.

I almost paired my pistachios with cottage cheese, but then had a chocolate attack so switched courses 🙂 Forget my kids-I would eat this in a heartbeat!
It was my snack yesterday 🙂
