Hi friends! You know what food holiday is coming up this Saturday, May 13th? It’s National Hummus Day! Good thing you know this now and not later so you can celebrate with these Mini Hummus Black Bean Burritos!
Hummus is often seen as just a dip for pita or vegetables. Not so! It’s great mixed into recipes and some of my fellow Recipe Redux members have created delicious ideas to incorporate more protein-rich, high-fiber hummus into your diet.
Sabra is a plant-based protein made from chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans), and they have so many flavors to choose from including Pine Nut, Roasted Red Pepper, Basil Pesto, Roasted Garlic, and Supremely Spicy to name a few. The Sabra Supremely Spicy Hummus is one of my favorites to use in recipes because it adds just the right amount of heat.
You’ve probably seen burritos as big as your head but have you ever seen burritos that fit in your palm? These are about that size! Why is it that miniature things are always so cute?
These Mini Hummus Black Bean Burritos are the perfect handheld appetizer; they’re vegan/vegetarian-friendly, and this recipe is super simple.

First, you’ll combine the filling ingredients in a mixing bowl….
Stir it up!
At this point, I could have just stopped and eaten the entire bowl of this hummus and black bean salad because it’s SO good.
Cut the tortilla
You can easily make this recipe gluten-free by substituting a gluten-free tortilla. Sabra Hummus is also gluten-free.
Add a small amount of mashed avocado
Top with filling
Roll up your burrito!
Admire how adorable and tiny it is for a moment and then devour it!
Perfect for summer parties, picnics, or tailgating!
I think these would also be great as an after school snack and kids will love rolling up these tiny burritos.

Ingredients
- 15 ounce can no-salt added black beans drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup Sabra Supremely Spicy Hummus
- 1/2 cup diced red bell pepper
- 1/3 cup finely diced red onion
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- 1/2 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- pinch of salt
- 6 whole wheat tortillas 8 inch
- 2 small avocados mashed
Instructions
- 1. In a mixing bowl, combine all of the ingredients except for avocado and tortillas. Stir together.
- 2. Cut each tortilla into quarters using a pizza cutter or a knife.
- 3. To make the mini burrito, spread a small amount of mashed avocado in the middle of a tortilla, making a line from the corner of the tortilla to the opposite side. Place a tablespoon of the hummus-bean mixture on top of the avocado. Gently fold the tortilla corner over the filling and then start to roll up one side of the tortilla over the filling, tucking the filling in as you roll up the burrito. Use a toothpick to hold the burrito together and place on a serving platter.
- 4. Serve or keep in the refrigerator until ready to serve (up to 6 hours).

Thank you Lauren!
What a great way to make-over a burrito. You’re right I have seen the oversized ones, and these seem much more reasonable and fun!
Thanks Katie! They certainly are more reasonable & filled with nutritious ingredients!
Love how you made mini versions of burritos!!
Miniature food is so much more fun! And you can eat more of them 🙂
I have to make this for my girls for lunch (although I’ll probably use the original hummus, but spicy for me please!)! Love it!
Yes, this is perfect for school lunch! Hope you all love it 🙂
