Have I told you all how much I love cranberries? Oh right, I did. That’s why I’m back again this week with another cranberry recipe for holiday entertaining!

The holidays can be a challenging time for many people when it comes to portion control and finding the balance of nutritious foods and the indulgent temptations of the season. That’s why Sprouts Farmers Market has asked nine dietitians from across the country to create a healthier holiday spread.

They say the best things come in small packages. That’s why these single-serving Cranberry Brie Pastry Puffs are the perfect appetizer or dessert option for holiday entertaining. The flaky pastry puffs are filled with brie and antioxidant-rich cranberries, lightly sweetened with maple syrup and honey.

How to Make Cranberry Brie Pastry Puffs

To start, toss those gorgeous red cranberries in a mixture of Sprouts® 100% maple syrup, water, orange zest, and fresh rosemary. Add them to a baking dish and roast those babies in the oven for 15 minutes.

Next, you’ll need frozen puff pastry dough. I found this brand at my local Sprouts Farmer’s Market® store, and it was really easy to work with.

Once you have the puff pastry dough rolled out and cut into eight rectangles (like below), use a pizza roller to create 16 square pieces.

Then we need some deliciously creamy Brie. Hallelujah for cheese! Go ahead and shout that out loud if your feelings for cheese are the same 🙂 You’ll only use 3 1/2 ounces of the Brie, which means there will be leftovers to make a beautiful cheese plate if your heart so desires. This also came from Sprouts®, but there should be a few different Brie options available if you can’t find this specific brand.

Now for the fun part…assembling the pastry puffs! To help you get a better idea of how to form these cute little pastry puffs, watch this quick video.

Gather the pastry puffs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silpat, leaving two inches between each, and place in the oven to bake.

Cranberry Brie Pastry Puffs

Servings: 16 servings
Author: Karman Meyer, Dietitian at The Nutrition Adventure

Ingredients

  • 1 package Dufour® Classic Puff Pastry thawed in refrigerator
  • 12 oz. fresh cranberries
  • 1/4 cup Sprouts® 100% pure maple syrup
  • 3 Tbsp. water
  • 1 tsp. orange zest
  • 1/2 tsp. minced rosemary leaves
  • 3 1/2 oz. Brie cut into 32 pieces
  • Honey to taste

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In a mixing bowl, combine the cranberries, maple syrup, water, orange zest, and rosemary. Pour the cranberries into a 9x13 baking dish and roast in oven for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and set aside.
  • 2. Meanwhile, prepare the puff pastry by carefully unfolding it and placing it on a lightly floured work surface. If needed, use a rolling pin lightly covered in flour to roll the dough to a 1/8-inch thickness. Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut the pastry into 8 rectangles, then cut each rectangle in half to make 16 squares. Gently stretch each square to approximately 3 1/2-inches.
  • 3. Place each pastry square onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Use a fork to prick the dough every 1/2-inch.
  • 4. Place two pieces of Brie in the center of the dough. Top with 1 tablespoon roasted cranberries, leaving a pastry border. Wet the edges with a small amount of water using your finger and bring the edges up around the cranberry filling.
  • 5. Bake pastries at 400F for 23-25 minutes, or until pastry is puffed and golden brown. Remove from oven and lightly drizzle honey over each pastry.
  • 6. Place pastries on a cooling rack for 15 minutes before serving.
