Make the most of citrus fruits this winter with some of these flavorful recipes!
I’m in love with all the citrus this year. Can’t. Get. Enough. Anyone with me on that?
I’ve had a few other people tell me that the grapefruit is EXTRA delicious this year. I wasn’t a fan of grapefruit until recently so I don’t have much to compare it to but I’m a big fan of it now!
What’s your favorite citrus fruit?
It’s important to load up on the vitamin C to keep the immune system in tip-top shape. Of course, it’s always best to get our vitamins and minerals from food so squeeze in more vitamin C by enjoying the citrus of the season like oranges, grapefruit, kumquats, tangerines!
Vitamin C is also important for iron absorption, preventing age-related vision loss, skin health, and fighting free radicals in the body. Some research suggests that increasing vitamin C intake through fruits and vegetables reduces the risk of cancer. However, vitamin C supplements do not appear to reduce cancer risk.
Exactly how much vitamin C should you get per day? Let’s find out:
- Children 1 to 3 (15 mg)
- Children 4 to 8 years (25 mg)
- Children 9 to 13 years (45 mg)
- Adolescents 14 to 18 years: 75 mg for boys and 65 mg for girls
- Adults age 19 and greater: 90 mg for men and 75 mg for women
- Pregnancy and Lactation: age 18 or younger (115 mg), ages 19 to 50 years (120 mg)
Today I’ve gathered some of my favorite recipes from the blog featuring winter citrus. If you missed it, be sure to watch this quick video demonstrating how to cut grapefruit. It’s really pretty simple!
